I came across this gem today. It's an aerial photograph of Oxwich taken on the 7th of July 1946.
What looks to be 2 ships in the bay is actually one ship, Solar which was towed here in January 1945 after being torpedoed by a u-boat in the Irish sea. The vessel broke into two peices and this is what you can see in the photograph.
The larger of the two is the bow section (located near to the beach). The stern section (which is still underwater today) is shown lying just off Oxwich point.
You will also be able to make out the Chain Low Home Radar base on Oxwich point. There is no obvious sign of the actual radar device but taking into consideration the faintness of the image it might be impossible to spot anyway.
This is the earliest photograph of these buildings to my knowledge but if anyone has any other photographs they would like to send in please contact me, I would love to see them.
