A Sunday walk around Mumbles headland
Last weekend wasn't exactly the best for walking as there was lots of rain on the Friday and Saturday and the forecast for Sunday wasn't too good either. However, waking up on Sunday morning and looking outside told a different story! It looked like the met office had got it wrong, yet again.
My friends and I wanted to go for a walk somewhere in Gower and decided to drive to Mumbles and walk around the headland. So we set and off arrived at the car park next to the big apple kiosk around 10:30am and headed down towards Bracelet Bay. For those of you that don't know, Bracelet Bay is quite a quiet beach located on the other side of mumbles, around the corner from the light house. It's quite concealed from the main road but there is a pay and display car park above and steps leading down to the beach.
After a stroll around Bracelet Bay, we walked up again, past the car park and followed the mumbles road around to the well concealed Limeslade beach. Walking down the steps to the beach, we walked towards the rocks and followed them around for a while before heading back up the steps to the main road. It was good to visit Limeslade as I hardly get to go there. It was a good opportunity to take some photographs of this secluded beach.
So back on the main road, we followed it around past the ice cream parlour and onto the coastal path leading from mumbles hill headland towards Caswell bay. The path was very clean and offered some spectacular views along the way. It was also good to see benches along the path aswell because it allows people to enjoy the views while sitting down and resting.
The next destination along the route was Rotherslade and on the approach the views of Langland, Pwlldu headland and Oxwich in the distance is something I recommend to anyone. Funnily enough, this was my first time visiting Rotherslade. My first impressions were positive. Although it is a small beach/area and can be viewed as an extension to Langland (at low tide). It has a typical seaside feel to it, mainly because of the beach huts, hotel and the café on the front.
After experiencing Rotherslade, we carried on walking around to Langland Bay where we walked on the beach. The beach surprisingly busy with families and surfers enjoying the blue skies and good surf.
I would definitely recommend walking this route. The pathway is very good and is easily accessible to anyone. Walking along this route on a clear day will give you terrific views out to sea and as you get closer to Rotherslade/Langland there are even better views of the coast.
